Driver allegedly upset over divorce, plows Into crowd, killing 35 in southern China

A 62-year-old man, reportedly distraught over his divorce settlement, drove his car into a crowd of people exercising at a sports center in Zhuhai, southern China, killing 35 and severely injuring dozens more, according to police on Tuesday.

The man was detained shortly after the attack and is now receiving treatment for what authorities believe are self-inflicted wounds.

The incident occurred Monday night, just before Zhuhai began hosting the People’s Liberation Army's annual aviation exhibition.

Searches related to the attack were tightly controlled on Chinese internet platforms, although videos spread on the social media platform X outside the firewall. In the footage, dozens of individuals lay injured across the sports center track, which is typically bustling with residents jogging, playing soccer, and dancing.
