Mamdani Defended Al-Qaeda Terrorist, Blamed FBI for Turning Him Into a Terrorist

He blamed the FBI for turning a terrorist into a terrorist, now he’s leading the race to run America’s largest city.

Look, I hate to ruin your day, but here’s the ugly truth: Zohran Mamdani, the woke poster child who’s apparently fine with tweeting defenses of an Al-Qaeda terrorist, is almost certainly going to be New York City’s next mayor. Unless his opponents magically grow a spine or New Yorkers snap out of it, which looks unlikely.

Back in 2015, when he was 23, Mamdani decided it was a great idea to tweet about how the FBI’s surveillance of Anwar al-Awlaki—yes, the Al-Qaeda guy who rubbed elbows with 9/11 hijackers—might’ve “pushed” him to join a terrorist group. Like, poor al-Awlaki was just a misunderstood imam from New Mexico who got radicalized because the feds watched him too closely. Never mind that he preached jihad, plotted to blow up planes in 2009 and 2010, and inspired a quarter of U.S. terrorism convictions between 2007 and 2011. Nope, Mamdani’s out here blaming the FBI for turning him into a monster. This is the guy who’s about to run New York.

The backlash is real. Former Congressman Peter King didn’t mince words, calling Mamdani’s tweets “an utter disgrace” and comparing them to blaming Jews for Hitler. Jim McCaffrey, a retired FDNY firefighter who lost his brother-in-law on 9/11, said they’re “deeply offensive” and flat-out “ridiculous.” Tom Von Essen, who was NYC’s fire commissioner when the towers fell, basically asked why we’d want a mayor who thinks the government creates terrorists. These folks are livid, and they’re not wrong, al-Awlaki was killed in a 2011 drone strike for a reason.

So why’s Mamdani still winning? His opponents are a disaster: a mayor nobody likes, a governor everyone’s sick of, and a guy who screams “crime wave nostalgia” so loud he couldn’t win a raffle. They know they’re toast unless two of them drop out and the last one goes full kamikaze on Mamdani’s radical shtick. But they won’t, because they’re too busy tripping over their own egos, just like the 2016 GOP clowns who handed Trump the nomination.

Mamdani’s got the vibes, young, smiley, promising to fix New York’s insane cost of living. People are so fed up with the same old garbage that they don’t care his tweets sound like an Al-Qaeda sympathy card or that he’s got a history of sharing Hanukkah-mocking videos and chanting BDS outside the Israeli consulate in 2021.

It’s Trump 2016 all over again: he’s got the right enemies, and the accusations of being too cozy with terrorists or antisemites? Nobody’s listening.

It's going to be a sad day for New York (and maybe for Florida, too, when all the New Yorkers make an urgent dash for freedom.)

Long live Mayor Mamdani.
