Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, a close and trusted aide of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is poised to resign from government in the near term, according to high-level sources. Though no fixed date has been confirmed yet, officials say the easing of the Iranian nuclear threat has prompted Dermer to reassess his role and plan for his departure even before upcoming elections.

In his current position, Dermer steers Israel’s strategic planning, maintains key ties with the United States, and participates regularly in Israel’s most exclusive security cabinet.

Dermer was Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S. and played a pivotal role in forging the Abraham Accords and leading hostage-return negotiations.

Dermer’s increasing public exposure, especially in the wake of stalled hostage-deal efforts, has rendered him more visible and vulnerable to criticism, a shift from his traditionally behind-the-scenes influence.

While officials say Dermer might remain in place to oversee other strategic initiatives before his formal exit, his exit appears imminent. He is expected, however, to continue advising Netanyahu even after leaving his ministerial post.
