Trump Torches Musk: "I am Saddend to Watch Elon Musk Go Completely Off the Rails"
President warns Musk’s third-party move will sow “chaos and disruption,” citing failed attempts in U.S. history and personal grievances over NASA and electric vehicle policy.

President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on Elon Musk Sunday night following the billionaire’s announcement of a new political movement, the “America Party”, calling Musk’s recent behavior a “train wreck” and warning that third-party efforts only create “disruption and chaos.”
In a Truth Social post, Trump said he was “saddened” by Musk’s trajectory in recent weeks.
“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks,” Trump wrote.
Musk’s Saturday announcement of the America Party, which he framed as an alternative to the traditional two-party system, came after weeks of hinting at political dissatisfaction and conducting polling on X to gauge public support.
Trump dismissed the viability of third parties in the U.S. political system, claiming:
“He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States - The System seems not designed for them. The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS…”
The president added that while Democrats have become unhinged, Republicans remain a "smooth running machine" that just passed what he described as “the biggest Bill of its kind in the History of our Country.”
Clash Over the “Big Beautiful Bill”
Trump also took a swipe at Musk’s criticism of the "Big Beautiful Bill Act,” a sweeping legislative package passed by the GOP. Musk, who has publicly slammed the bill for being bloated with unnecessary spending, was especially opposed to the elimination of electric vehicle mandates - a move that impacts Tesla directly.
According to Trump, the falling-out deepened after Musk reportedly lobbied for a close associate to lead NASA, a proposal the president rejected.
“Additionally, Elon asked that one of his close friends run NASA… I was surprised to learn that he was a blue-blooded Democrat who had never contributed to a Republican before,” Trump said.
Trump added that allowing someone closely tied to Musk’s business interests to lead NASA would have posed a conflict of interest:
“I also thought it inappropriate that a very close friend of Elon, who was in the space business, run NASA, when NASA is such a big part of Elon’s corporate life.”
“My Number One charge is to protect the American Public!” he concluded.
Third-Party Tensions Rise
Musk’s launch of the America Party represents a rare but high-profile attempt to challenge the entrenched two-party structure of American politics. His platform has yet to be formally released, but early reactions suggest a mix of support and skepticism.
Tensions between the tech mogul and the president have been mounting for weeks, particularly as Musk has become more vocal about his disapproval of federal spending and perceived inefficiencies in government programs.
