They booed the Israeli anthem. But on Sunday night in, Israel answered the only way it knows how, with fight, fire, and one of the greatest victories in its basketball history.

Against all odds, Israel smashed powerhouse France 82–69 in the EuroBasket, a win that sent shockwaves across Europe and goosebumps through every Israeli fan.

NBA star Deni Avdija put on a show, scoring 23 points and pulling down 8 rebounds. At the buzzer, his words were pure emotion: “This is our people, our brothers. I’m so proud of everyone.”

Right beside him, captain Tomer Ginat grabbed the mic mid-interview and shouted what will be remembered long after the tournament ends: “No one will boo our anthem again.”

Ginat, who finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds, admitted: “This is one of the greatest moments of my career, maybe the greatest.”

Coach Ariel Beit-Halachmi tried to stay calm, but couldn’t hide his pride: “We played beautiful basketball tonight. It’s a huge win, but the job isn’t done. Belgium is next.”

Just 24 hours earlier, Israel had lost to Poland in a crushing finish. But the players didn’t break. Forward Eitan Burg said it best: “We respect everyone, but fear no one. Beating France is a dream come true.”

The emotional weight of the night was clear. Booed by opposing crowds during previous games, the Israelis turned that scorn into victory.
