Official: Maccabi Haifa star Dean David leaves the team

Maccabi Haifa has officially announced the departure of one of the team's stars in recent years. Striker Dean David, who will sign with the Japanese Yokohama Marinos.

Maccabi Haifa announced this morning (Sunday, July 6, 2025) the official departure of one of its key players in recent years, striker Dean David, who is set to sign with Yokohama Marinos in Japan.

The Greens stated that David will leave the team’s training camp in Hungary, return to Israel, and then travel to Japan to finalize his contract.As David exits, a new striker arrived last night: Serbian forward Georgije Jovanović, formerly of Maccabi Tel Aviv, signed with Maccabi Haifa on a one-year loan deal, with an option to buy.

The 26-year-old underwent medical tests in Budapest today and immediately joined the team’s training camp in Hungary. Jovanović began his career in Partizan Belgrade’s youth academy, later playing for their senior team. He has also featured for clubs such as Cádiz, Basel, and Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he scored 32 goals in 64 appearances.

Jovanović has four caps for the Serbian national team.Dean David won two league titles with Maccabi Haifa, played in the UEFA Champions League, and scored memorable goals, including a brace against Maccabi Tel Aviv, with one being a stunning backheel.

Last season, he shared the Israeli Premier League top scorer title with Eran Zahavi, netting 14 goals in 29 appearances. His new club, Yokohama Marinos, is currently at the bottom of the Japanese league with 18 points after 23 rounds.
