Shirts bearing the phrase “Führer 44”, a chilling reference to Adolf Hitler and Nazi SS symbolism, are being openly sold to tourists in Mallorca’s bustling Playa de Palma market, raising alarm. The design mimics the infamous SS insignia, with the number 44 evoking both the stylized lightning-bolt “S” and an explicit nod to the SS-Dirlewanger Brigade, a notorious Nazi unit responsible for wartime atrocities.

Above the number, the German word “Führer”, the title used exclusively for Hitler, is prominently displayed, leaving little ambiguity about the shirt’s meaning. Despite bans in Germany and widespread condemnation of Nazi iconography, local vendors continue to sell the shirts as casual souvenirs, claiming that many tourists perceive them as a “joke.”
