A prominent royal expert has claimed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are attempting to establish themselves as an “alternative Royal Family and “replace” Prince William and Princess Kate. The accusation comes in the wake of Prince Harry’s recent visit to the UK, which included a highly-anticipated reunion with his father, King Charles.

In a column for the Daily Mail, journalist Richard Eden expressed skepticism about a potential reconciliation, despite the King and Prince Harry meeting for the first time in 19 months. While acknowledging a father’s desire to see his son, Eden argued that the King’s position as Head of State complicates the matter.

According to Eden, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are "bad news" for the Royal Family.

"We have seen time and time again that they can't be trusted," he wrote. "They exploit their royal connections, and I don't think it's being paranoid to say that they want to be the alternative Royal Family."

Eden further alleged that the couple is actively trying to undermine Prince William and Princess Kate, whom he refers to as the “principal royals.” His comments offer a counterpoint to other analyses that viewed Prince Harry's four-day trip and meeting with King Charles as a positive step toward mending the long-standing rift.
