GoFundMe moved swiftly to terminate a fundraising campaign for Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old Utah man charged in the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk. The fundraiser, which appeared on the platform shortly after Robinson's arrest, was shut down within hours for violating the company's terms of service.

The page, which claimed Robinson “did what the Democrats told him to do,” sought to raise money for the suspect's legal defense. GoFundMe's action aligns with its strict policies against campaigns that support individuals accused of violent crimes.

In a statement posted on X, the company clarified its position. “Our Terms of Service explicitly prohibit fundraisers for the legal defense of a violent crime,” the statement read. “Any attempted fundraisers for the suspected shooter will be swiftly removed from the platform and fully refunded. Our hearts go out to the Kirk family and everyone impacted by this tragedy.”

Robinson, who was arrested after a family member contacted authorities, has been charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and obstruction of justice. While motives for the shooting are still under investigation, relatives told investigators that the suspect had become increasingly political in recent years, with one family dinner turning heated when he directed his anger at Kirk.

Investigators reportedly recovered a bolt-action rifle wrapped in a towel from woods near the campus where Kirk was shot. According to authorities, bullet casings found at the scene contained inscriptions referencing anti-fascism, internet memes, and video games.

In contrast to the terminated campaign, legitimate memorial funds for Kirk's family have garnered widespread support. Donations across GoFundMe and GiveSendGo platforms have already surpassed $3 million. Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson has organized a separate campaign through his company, which has raised nearly $3.5 million of its $5 million goal. GoFundMe has vowed to vet all memorial campaigns to ensure funds are safely delivered to the intended beneficiaries, including Kirk’s widow and two young children.
