The IDF has begun urging residents of Gaza City to evacuate southward, as Hamas attempts to block the process and use civilians as human shields.

In a video statement released in Arabic on Wednesday, IDF Spokesperson Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee addressed Gaza residents directly:

“In recent days, Hamas has been spreading false rumors that there is no space available in the southern Gaza Strip. Ahead of the next phase of the war, I want to clarify that there are indeed wide open areas in the south,” he said.

Adraee pointed specifically to central camps and the Al-Mawasi area as zones where civilians can safely relocate. “These areas are empty of tents,” he emphasized, noting that the IDF has already mapped them to help ease evacuation.

“Evacuation of Gaza City is inevitable,” Adraee warned. “Every family that moves south will receive maximum humanitarian assistance, which we are actively working to expand.”

According to Adraee, preparations are already underway: the IDF is setting up tents, preparing grounds for aid distribution centers, deploying a new water pipeline, and coordinating with international partners to provide relief.

The statement highlights Israel’s effort to minimize civilian harm while Hamas actively obstructs evacuations, forcing residents to remain in combat zones for propaganda and military purposes.
