In a fiery 2011 address to the U.S. Congress, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stark warning about Iran’s nuclear program, famously declaring, “If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it’s a nuclear duck.” The speech, now resurfacing in a viral video clip, captures Netanyahu’s unrelenting focus on Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons—a threat he argued was evident in its underground facilities, ballistic missile development, and defiance of crippling sanctions. As the world grapples with the fallout of the U.S.-led Operation Midnight Hammer on June 22, 2025, which obliterated Iran’s nuclear sites at Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan, Netanyahu’s 14-year-old words resonate with chilling prescience.

In the 2011 video, Netanyahu dismisses Iran’s claim that its nuclear program is for medical research, pointing to the Fordo facility, buried under 90 meters of rock, and thousands of centrifuges enriching uranium far beyond civilian needs. “A country that absorbs crippling sanctions isn’t doing it for medical science,” he quips, his “nuclear duck” metaphor landing with biting clarity. He accuses Iran of Holocaust denial, 9/11 conspiracy theories, and relentless calls for Israel’s destruction, warning, “This is how they behave without nuclear weapons. Imagine them with nuclear weapons.” The clip, widely shared on X, shows Netanyahu insisting that Israel, as a Jewish state, must remain “masters of our fate” to secure its survival, even while valuing its U.S. alliance.

Fast forward to 2025, and Netanyahu’s warnings have proven prophetic. The U.S. strike, using B-2 stealth bombers, destroyed nearly all of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and 70-75% of its ballistic missile program, as confirmed by Israeli estimates. A recent Channel 12 News interview with Amit Segal highlighted Netanyahu’s months-long, secretive planning with the IDF and Mossad, driven by his 2011 conviction that Iran’s nuclear threat was existential.

As Israel braces for Iran’s vowed retaliation, with Home Front Command guidelines extended through June 24, the 2011 video of Netanyahu’s speech serves as a powerful reminder of his foresight. The “nuclear duck” has been grounded, but the fight to secure Israel’s future continues, with Netanyahu’s words as a rallying cry for vigilance and resolve.
