In an unprecedented meteorological event, Israel recorded its hottest night ever between Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures reaching 36.6°C (97.9°F), according to the Israel Meteorological Service. This shattered the previous record of 35.5°C set in earlier years.

The extreme heatwave, which gripped the country throughout Tuesday, persisted well into the night, making this one of the most unusual and severe hot-weather events in Israel’s history.

In Eilat, temperatures reached 35.8°C overnight, while Yotvata broke its own nighttime record at 33.7°C. Meteorologists warn that Wednesday could be the hottest day in Israel in 88 years, with a severe heatwave expected across most regions. Along the coastal plain, oppressive humidity will exacerbate the heat stress.

Forecasts predict even higher daytime temperatures, with southern regions possibly seeing isolated thunderstorms despite the intense heat. Eilat is expected to approach its all-time record with temperatures above 47.6°C, while Kfar Blum has already set a new August high at 46.7°C. Records were also broken in Safed, Elon, and Harashim.

The Israel Meteorological Service issued a warning for hazardous beach conditions until 5:00 a.m., with the Mediterranean Sea seeing wave heights of 70–100 cm, expected to rise further, making swimming dangerous.
