Al-Jazeera, the Qatari news channel, confirmed today (Wednesday) that their journalist, Ismail al-Roul, died in the strike. Earlier in the day, al-Roul had broadcast from the ruins of Ismail Haniyeh’s residence in northern Gaza. Reports indicate that al-Roul was killed in an attack on a building near Haniyeh’s already destroyed home. Another journalist also died in the attack.

According to Israel Hayom reports, this is not the first instance of a journalist being killed in the region; recently, two journalists, including the son of a senior Al-Jazeera journalist, were killed in an IDF strike, later identified as militants from Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

In June, following the rescue of four hostages in "Operation Arnon," it was found that some had been hidden in the home of journalist Abdullah al-Jamal, who had extensively covered events in Gaza. Al-Jazeera stated they were unfamiliar with him.
