President Donald Trump made the following statement today (Monday) regarding Europe and its leaders, while signing an executive order outlawing the burning of the American flag:

"I think our nation now is the most respected nation anywhere in the world by far. You saw that with the European leaders on Friday, you saw that with NATO, where they respect your president to a level that they jokingly call me the president of Europe. They call me the president of Europe, which is an honor."

Trump also said that his administration will deny federal funding to cities that ban cash bail, and he also noted that over 100,000 people have applied to join ICE to help crack down on illegal immigration.

Regarding the executive order banning flag banning, Trump said "If you burn a flag, you get 1 YEAR IN JAIL, no exits, no nothing...incite to riot. You burn a flag? 1 year in jail, and it goes on your record. You will see flag burning stop IMMEDIATELY. All over the country, they're burning flags! As you know, through a very sad court...they called it 'freedom of speech.' When you burn the American flag, it incites riots, at levels we've never seen before."

The Department of Justice will reportedly be investigating any case of flag burning which is not protected by the first amendment to the constitution. The Supreme Court found that the sole act of burning the flag is protected in this way, so the DOJ will likely need to find additional charges related to the act to prosecute offenders. Moreover, those charges will need to be based on federal law, which is the department's jurisdiction.
