Tensions between President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk reignited overnight as the Senate prepares to vote on Trump's flagship tax-cut bill dubbed The Big Beautiful Bill. The legislation is expected to significantly increase the national debt.

In a post on X, Musk threatened to establish a new political party called the America Party if the bill passes. He wrote that the United States needs a real alternative to what he called the one-party system of Democrats and Republicans.

"If this insane spending bill passes the America Party will be born the next day" Musk declared. "The people need a real voice"

Musk also issued a personal threat to senators: "Any member of Congress who campaigned on cutting spending and now votes for this record debt hike should be ashamed. They will lose their primaries next year even if it's the last thing I do on Earth"

Trump hit back this morning with a post that combined policy and personal jabs

"Elon Musk knew well before supporting me that I strongly opposed the electric vehicle mandate. EVs are fine but no one should be forced to own one" Trump wrote

He then added "Elon probably received more subsidies than anyone in history. Without those he would have had to shut down and go back to South Africa"

Trump continued with a swipe at Musk's companies suggesting the country could save billions without them. "No more rockets satellites or electric cars. Maybe DOGE should take a look at this. Big money to be saved"

The vote in the Senate remains tight. Republicans can afford no more than three defections and may ultimately need the Vice President to break a tie under the Constitution
