Blinken: We were not involved in or informed of Haniyeh's elimination

The Secretary of State insisted that a hostage deal remained the highest priority and that he would not comment on the effect of any particular incident on that effort.

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken commented today (Wednesday) on the reported Israeli assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, saying that the United States was neither involved in nor informed of the attack, according to Israel Hayom.

Blinken also reiterated the importance of reaching a hostage deal and would not comment on the effect Haniyeh's assassination would have on securing this goal.
