Slovakia Stands with Israel: The Touching Pledge Made by Its Foreign Minister
Slovakia — a longstanding ally of Israel — reaffirmed its strong support for the Jewish state during an official visit by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar to Bratislava on Wednesday.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar met on Wednesday afternoon with Slovakia’s Foreign Minister, Juraj Blanár, at the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital city of Bratislava.
The meeting began with a private one-on-one conversation between the two ministers, followed by an expanded session that included both countries’ bilateral teams. Afterwards, the ministers held a joint press conference, during which Slovakia’s foreign minister delivered a public statement in support of Israel.
Juraj Blanár declared: “Slovakia will oppose any proposal aimed at suspending the dialogue between the European Union and Israel. We firmly believe that it is essential to maintain open communication channels under all circumstances — especially during these critical times in the Middle East.”
He added: “This is why we support continued dialogue. I believe it is very important — particularly from a diplomatic standpoint — to keep talking and exchanging views whenever possible and necessary.”
In his remarks, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar expressed appreciation for Slovakia’s consistent support:
“Israel values Slovakia’s firm stance in support of our fundamental right to self-defense. We thank you for standing with Israel in the face of efforts to promote unilateral and biased measures against us in the EU or the United Nations. I am committed to strengthening the relationship between Israel and Slovakia and continuing our bilateral dialogue.”
