Authorities in Las Vegas reported on Monday that an Israeli man visiting the city on vacation was robbed and murdered. His body was found about a fifteen minute drive from the city’s main tourist center. According to current information, the victim was a man in his forties, and initial assessments suggest the murder was not motivated by antisemitism.

Sources in the local Jewish community stated, “At this point, we do not know the circumstances of this horrific event. Official investigators have now taken over the case.” One of the Chabad emissaries in the United States has been assisting the victim’s family in completing the required procedures, including preventing an autopsy. The body is expected to be flown to Israel shortly for burial in a local cemetery.

In a separate case earlier this year, in April 2025, a 45 year old Israeli man was murdered in Woodland Hills, a suburb of Los Angeles. In May, detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's homicide division, in coordination with the FBI, arrested a suspect in the murder of Meni (Menashe) Hidera. Hidera was found by police unconscious and severely injured in his upper floor apartment in Van Nuys. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene.

The investigation revealed that an unknown intruder entered his apartment after breaking through a rooftop window in a neighboring empty unit and crossing through balconies. A violent confrontation ensued, ultimately leading to Hidera’s death. LAPD homicide investigators identified the suspect as Eric Escamilla, a 27 year old man of Hispanic descent. With the help of an FBI task force, he was located and arrested at a local hospital where he was receiving treatment.

Emergency responders had initially arrived at the Woodland Hills residence in the early morning hours for reasons that remain unclear. LAPD officers followed about an hour later and found the victim already deceased.
