A 19-year-old resident of I’billin in northern Israel was arrested late Sunday night after being caught driving his BMW at a staggering 225 km/h (140 mph) on Highway 6. The dramatic incident ended with the driver’s license revoked, his vehicle seized, and police seeking to confiscate the car permanently.

According to the Israel Police, the event unfolded shortly before midnight when officers from the National Traffic Police measured the speeding vehicle using a laser speed gun. The car was traveling at more than double the legal limit.

Traffic patrol units immediately began pursuing the suspect, while the Israel Police Air Unit joined the operation from above. Coordinating between aerial and ground units, officers successfully intercepted the vehicle and brought it to a stop without injuries.

The suspect was taken for questioning by traffic investigators in Acre. Following the interrogation, he was placed under arrest. A court hearing on Monday morning resulted in his release under restrictive conditions while legal proceedings continue.

Police confirmed that the driver’s license was suspended on the spot and that the BMW was impounded. Authorities intend to request a court order for permanent forfeiture of the vehicle, citing the extreme danger posed by the reckless driving.

Law enforcement officials stressed that such speeds could have led to a fatal crash, urging drivers to adhere to traffic laws to protect lives.
