A chilling crime has rocked Egypt, as a stepmother allegedly poisoned the bread she prepared for her family, leading to the deaths of six children and their father in the country’s south, according to a report by N12. The tragedy, driven by jealousy over the father’s reconciliation with his first wife, unfolded after a seemingly routine family meal, leaving the nation in shock as the gruesome details emerged.

Egypt’s Ministry of Interior revealed that the second wife confessed to lacing the bread with a toxic substance to eliminate her husband’s children. The investigation disclosed that the act was motivated by her fear of divorce after the father reconnected with his first wife, the children’s mother. Hours after the meal, the family began suffering severe symptoms, nausea, high fever, and sudden death, unraveling a devastating sequence that claimed one life after another.

The first child fell ill with a high fever and was rushed to the hospital, followed by two siblings who also succumbed. A fourth child died soon after, and the fifth, initially thought to be stable, passed away in medical care. The sixth child, hospitalized and tested, also died, leaving no survivors among the siblings within hours. The father, experiencing similar symptoms, was treated but died in the hospital about ten days later, adding a tragic coda to the family’s ordeal.

The children’s mother, the father’s 40-year-old first wife, narrowly escaped death after tasting a small piece of the poisoned bread sent by her rival. Noticing its bitter taste and feeling intense thirst, she refused to eat more, suspecting foul play. Typically the one to bake the family’s bread, her caution likely saved her life, though it could not prevent the tragedy that claimed her six children and ex-husband.

The case sparked widespread outrage and rumors in Egypt, with some speculating the children died from meningitis. The Egyptian Ministry of Health issued an official denial, clarifying that lab tests ruled out any infectious diseases, including viral or bacterial meningitis. The confirmation of poisoning as the cause intensified public horror and scrutiny of the case.

The stepmother’s actions have left a nation grappling with the brutality of the crime, rooted in domestic jealousy and executed with chilling precision. Authorities continue to investigate, as Egypt mourns the loss of an entire family.
