Over 100 international aid organizations have accused Israel of blocking humanitarian deliveries to the Gaza Strip for months, saying most groups have been unable to bring in supplies since March. In a statement released this Thursday, the NGOs claimed Israel rejected dozens of requests on the grounds they were “unauthorized,” leaving food, medicine, water, and emergency gear worth millions of dollars stranded in Jordan, Egypt, and Ashdod.

A victim to blame

The organizations blame a new registration process introduced in March that requires submitting lists of Palestinian staff for security checks. They say the policy is illegal, endangers workers, undermines their independence, and is designed to restrict humanitarian work.

Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) rejected the allegations, saying the mechanism ensures aid reaches civilians and not Hamas.

In Response from COGAT sent to the international media, it has been stated:

The reality is entirely the opposite of the claims that were published. Israel works to facilitate and enable the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, while the Hamas terrorist organization seeks to exploit aid to strengthen its military capabilities and consolidate its control over the population, sometimes with the knowledge, and sometimes without the knowledge, of certain international aid organizations.

Irregularities inside Gaza: from who's fault is it?

Officials accused the terror group of exploiting humanitarian deliveries, sometimes with the knowledge of certain aid bodies, and said nearly 20 organizations that completed registration are delivering around 300 trucks of supplies into Gaza daily.

The refusal of some international organizations to provide the information and cooperate with the registration process raises serious concerns about their intentions and the possibility of ties between the organization or its employees and Hamas. In contrast, nearly 20 international organizations that complied with the law and completed the registration process are delivering aid to Gaza on a regular basis, in full cooperation. As evidence, about 300 humanitarian aid trucks enter the Gaza Strip every day through organizations registered under the new mechanism.

COGAT said delays occur only when organizations refuse to meet security requirements, urging all groups, especially those behind the accusations, to “act transparently” and complete the process.
