Families accuse the army of shocking neglect as young lookouts are left in life-threatening desert conditions — with no AC, no cold water, and no escape from the heat.

A sweltering heatwave that pushed temperatures in Israel’s southern Eilot region to 46°C turned into a potential disaster for soldiers stationed at an IDF base — after a power and water outage left them without air conditioning, refrigeration, or relief from the heat.

According to the IDF, the outage impacted only part of the base and soldiers were relocated to air-conditioned rooms. But furious parents claim otherwise, warning that “this is a ticking time bomb.”

“There’s no food because the fridge broke, over ten girls have fainted, five were evacuated to Soroka Hospital,” one mother told N12. “The water from the taps is boiling hot, there’s no ice, and they have nothing to drink but warm water.” Another parent said: “They left an entire company of girls who enlisted just two weeks ago to endure this heat without cold water — it’s criminal.”

The army denies the claims, insisting that all soldiers are now in cooled rooms and have received additional cold food and drinks.

Yet military correspondent Doron Kadosh reports that soldiers are still collapsing, with more being rushed to the base clinic for IV treatment. The heat on base remains relentless, topping 40°C even in the shade, with soldiers forced to gulp hot water to stay hydrated.
