“Let Them Die Outside”: Hamas Document Reveals How Commanders Abandoned Their Fighters
A handwritten Hamas account found beneath the European Hospital in Gaza exposes how commanders abandoned fighters to die—and used the medical facility as a terror base.

The IDF Arabic Spokesperson has published a chilling Hamas document seized during operations beneath the European Hospital in Khan Younis. The handwritten personal account, dated February 2025, reveals how a Hamas platoon commander ordered a tunnel sealed—leaving fellow operatives outside to die during a direct clash with Israeli forces.
The account, attributed to a Hamas operative, details how two fighters, Ahmad Shatat and Salim Ma’aruf, were trapped outside the tunnel and killed while attempting to flee toward the hospital after the entrance was intentionally locked. The commander, identified as Muhammad al-Bakri, is quoted as telling those inside the tunnel: “Tie the door with a rope and let them die outside.”
The document further alleges that al-Bakri and his unit escaped through a secondary tunnel leading directly into the European Hospital, from where they opened fire on IDF troops.
“This is unequivocal evidence of Hamas’ systematic use of hospitals for terror—both above and below ground,” the IDF said in a statement. “It also exposes the cowardice of Hamas leaders who hide in tunnels and sacrifice their fighters without hesitation.”
The revelation adds to mounting proof of Hamas' exploitation of civilian infrastructure in Gaza, turning protected sites like hospitals into launchpads for attacks—at the expense of both their own operatives and the Palestinian population.
