At this hour, a ceremony for changing the Northern Command commanders is being held. Major General Rafi Milo, who until now served as Home Front Command commander, is entering the position in place of Major General Uri Gordin, who served in the role for about three years. The ceremony is being held in the presence of the Chief of Staff and other senior officials in the security establishment.

Major General Gordin opened his remarks with self-criticism and acknowledgment of the army's failure in the October 7th events and Hezbollah's strengthening on the border: "For years we allowed the threat of a terrorist organization to intensify on our northern border – this is an operational and strategic error, mine and my predecessors'. A serious error that must not be repeated. Now, after this heavy threat has been removed, we are commanded to ensure that no other threat grows in its place. The north is safer today than on any day in recent decades. This is the time to upgrade and bring flourishing and prosperity, this is a national opportunity."

Incoming Northern Command Commander: "The Security Reality is Fragile"

The incoming Northern Command commander, Major General Rafi Milo, said in his speech: "I know that the security reality is fragile. We are required to continue, preserve and deepen the war's achievements, shape a secure and improved security reality, preserve freedom of action and complete the return of all northern residents to their homes in safety and with a sense of security. And together with my colleagues, the heads of authorities, to turn this special region into a growing, flourishing and prosperous area."

The Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, said in his speech at the ceremony: "We will not retreat. Our defense concept on our northern border will be intertwined with unceasing offensiveness in various operations on the overt and less-overt levels, and in constant readiness to destroy any threat without delay." Additionally, referring to the situation in the south, Zamir said: "To ensure the security of southern residents, to collapse Hamas rule to its foundation and return all the hostages to their homes – some for dignified burial and others for full rehabilitation – these are goals that remain as a compass before our eyes."
