This morning, Education Minister Yoav Kisch issued a guidance document to educational institutions and schools ahead of the first day of school, which will take place next week. Among other things, he wrote that in order to encourage Jewish identity, every school should have an Israeli flag hanging. He also added that as befits a festive day, it would be good to arrive wearing a white shirt. From this, many in the media, at the hostage headquarters, and in various places attacked him, claiming that he was supposedly banning coming to school with a yellow shirt and that he was apparently opposing the struggle to return the hostages.

In response, the Education Minister issued a clarification this evening while attacking the media, claiming that "large parts of it spread absolute fake news," and that many journalists suffer from reading comprehension difficulties, since he never explicitly called for banning yellow shirts anywhere.

In his clarification statement, he wrote: "Apparently, in addition to strengthening Jewish identity in the education system, we should also strengthen reading comprehension among large parts of the Israeli media that have been spreading absolute fake news since this morning. In the letter I issued to education teams and teaching staff, it was explicitly written – 1. Students should arrive in uniform dress according to procedures. Preference for white color following the first day of opening the year. 2. Each student will choose whatever shirt color they want, as long as it complies with the school's procedures. In order to sow more hatred and division, or out of significant difficulties in reading comprehension, some reporters decided to launch the headline campaign: 'Kisch against the hostages.' Try to be less transparent and amateurish next time."
