Tali Gottlieb, a Likud lawmaker known for her fiery rhetoric, ignited a political storm Sunday with a blistering attack on Tel Aviv–Yafo Mayor Ron Huldai. Writing on social media platform X, Gottlieb accused Huldai of trying to “erase Judaism from Tel Aviv,” labeling him a “tyrant,” a “dog eater,” and “heartless.”

In her posts, Gottlieb urged what she called “religious Jewish settlement” in Tel Aviv, declaring it a national mission. “It is the order of the day to establish religious Jewish presence across Tel Aviv, as we did in Lod and Herzliya,” she wrote, calling on supporters to mobilize donations for the cause.

The controversy erupted after Tel Aviv municipality required synagogues and associations to sign contracts affirming equality in service regardless of faith(!). Critics argue this undermines basic Jewish law.

Huldai dismissed Gottlieb’s claims as “wild incitement,” insisting hundreds of synagogues already cooperate fully with the city and that the disputed clause had been amended months ago in coordination with religious leaders. “What exists here is nothing more than political hatred,” Huldai said.

This is the second time in a week that Gottlieb has faced backlash for her remarks. Days earlier, she compared a court security guard to a “Judenrat,” prompting condemnation even from her own Likud colleagues. Justice Minister Yariv Levin demanded she apologize.
