France has summoned United States Ambassador Charles Kushner for a clarification meeting after he sent a letter to President Emmanuel Macron alleging that French authorities have failed to take sufficient action against antisemitic violence. The French Foreign Ministry confirmed the move late Sunday, saying the ambassador’s claims were “not acceptable.”

In his letter, Kushner, the father of Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump, expressed concern over the rise in antisemitic incidents in France and accused the government of falling short in its efforts to combat them.

“The French authorities are aware of the allegations raised by the US ambassador in his letter to the president of the republic,” the ministry said in a statement. “The ambassador’s claims are not acceptable.”

Kushner’s intervention came against the backdrop of several antisemitic episodes in France in recent weeks. On Friday, a manager of an adventure park in southern France barred entry to a group of 150 Israeli children and teenagers. He was later questioned by police on suspicion of religious discrimination, though he denied the accusations.

The incident adds to a broader climate of tension, with Paris keen to assert that it takes antisemitism seriously while pushing back against criticism from Washington.
